Saint John of the cross was a Carmelite priest who spent his life caring for the poor and the sick.
He was born in Spain and spent his life there as a mystic and spiritual director. He is credited with reforming and revitalizing the order of the Carmelites. He is a Doctor of the Church.
His feast day is December 14th. He is the patron saint of mystics and those who lead a contemplative life.
